Over An Empty Sky
Thoughts appear in front of me.
Like birds out of the corner of my eye
they fly across my sight
and they are gone.
I can't get in their way.
I can't jump that high
or go that fast.
So I lie in the warm sunlight
enjoying them as they are busy disappearing.
When they are gone I fawn over the empty sky.
When they come back I revel in the contrast.
When they chase each other around trying to establish dominance
I tell them everything will be okay.
"Okay!?"
Then I remember
and laugh wildly
at my childish behavior.
I was again pretending to be the King of the Birds.
