Mercy Is

Mercy is

to fall

into our

suffering and see

it's endlessness.

To be so frustrated

and wrecked that

we throw up our hands

and yell,

"I can't,"

To be so broken

that we may see

as if for the first time

what cannot be broken.

Mercy is love's hammer.

Crushing our answers

and plundering

our confidences.

By the time we

fall to our knees

and cry

"Mercy!"

We are not asking for it!

We are acknowledging it.

So it can finally

end it's thankless toil and

leave us in peace.
